Way to Grow Puppy Program

Way to Grow Puppy Program

With our Way to Grow Puppy program, your puppy will have access to our comprehensive veterinary services. The Way to Grow Puppy program is designed to help your puppy grow up healthy and strong. Starting at 8 weeks of age and continuing through the 16th week of your puppy’s life, our veterinarians in Winnipeg perform a variety of examinations and administer a range of services designed to boost your puppy’s immune system and eliminate any dangerous parasites that pose a common threat to puppies. Here’s a list of some of our services.

Vaccinations are critical to the health of your puppy, and can affect him or her into adulthood. Vaccines for puppies work just like human vaccines. They’re made up of antigens, which are used to stimulate the immune system. Vaccines help to build up an immunity to common diseases.

By preventing the spread of common diseases, vaccines are important for public safety as well as the safety of individual animals. This is because the more animals that are vaccinated against a certain disease, the fewer cases of those disease may surface. In addition, some vaccines (like the rabies vaccine) keep people safe as well as animals.

When your puppy joins the Way to Grow program, we'll automatically vaccinate him or her against the following diseases:

  • Rabies
  • Distemper
  • Parvovirus
  • Bordatella

As a pet owner, you may have questions about which vaccines are best for your puppy, and what side effects might arise in puppies after being vaccinated. We answer all these questions and more during patient visits. Side effects are usually minimal, but we'll tell you what symptoms to look out for after you take your puppy home.

When your puppy is enrolled in the Way to Grow program, we automatically perform fecal tests for parasites that can cause your puppy harm. Parasites can cause symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea, and may even cause anemia.

Roundworms are the most common parasitic affliction found in puppies, and can even be found in your puppy from birth because infected mothers can pass this parasite on to their offspring. Dogs often don’t show signs of roundworm infection, but in serious cases (particularly in puppies), the symptoms may include diarrhea, vomiting and weight loss.

It’s important to get rid of round worms before they become a serious problem. Not only do round worms pose a threat to your puppy, but they can also affect humans. Round worm eggs may accumulate in the soil where your pet has laid feces. This poses a threat to children and people who come into contact with infected soil. Humans who become infected with round worms can experience lung and heart problems.
